Palestra | Glass Age: Science, Art and Society - From Invisibility to Iridescence

In celebration of the International Year of Glass and the 20th Anniversary of the VICARTE Research Unit, we are pleased to announce a very special event with Visiting Artist and Educator, Katherine Gray.  This VICARTE engagement, sponsored by the Department of Conservation and Restoration and the FCT-NOVA Biblioteca with generous support from The American Corners Program offers us a glimpse into the artwork and artistic practice of a world-renowned artist working in glass.  Among her many accomplishments, Katherine Gray is an elected member of the College of Fellows of the American Crafts Council, Professor and Associate Chair of the Department of Art and Design at California State University San Bernadino and watched around the world as the Resident Evaluator on Netflix Television’s Blown Away series.  Whether working to create exquisitely crafted art objects that demonstrate the highest levels of skill and grace, curating exhibitions of exceptional quality, or teaching others the secrets of ancient glass skills in studios and universities around the globe, Katherine Gray is an instrumental part of glass making in contemporary art.  We hope that you will join us here at NOVA to take part in this historic event.
