Matilde Serra is a Chemist who graduated in 2023 from NOVA School of Science and Technology. She sought a practice that could bridge scientific and artistic expression which led her to the Master’s in Art and Science of Glass and Ceramics in VICARTE in NOVA School of Science and Technology, where she develops work at the intersection of materials research and contemporary art. Based in Almada, Portugal, she explores how the chemistry of glass, its light, structure, and transformation, can shape immersive, sensory experiences. Her recent projects use luminescent coatings and controlled firing to reveal hidden behaviours of matter, inviting viewers to notice shifts in perception and states of consciousness. By treating the studio as both laboratory and atelier, she aims to translate experimental results into poetic, metaphoric works that expand how we feel, see, and think with glass.
